Competitions: Millennium Award


This year 17 films compete in the main competition for the Millennium Award and 8000 €. The jury, consisting of: Nino Kirtadze, Aleš Suk and Manuel Rougeron will select the winning film. The award is funded by Millennium Bank.

Jury

Nino Kirtadze

Academy-award-winning film director. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. She holds a degree in literature. During the troubles of the 1990s in the Caucasus, she worked as a war correspondent for AFP and for AP, covering the war in Chechnya and other armed conflicts in the region. Her feature-length documentaries deal with controversial subjects, placing the accent on the human drama while creating deep insightful human portraits and blending together the personal and the universal. Her films have won international acclaim and numerous prestigious awards at festivals worldwide, including Best Director Prize at Sundance for her “Durakovo-village of fools” and European Film Academy Prize for “The Pipeline, Next Door”. Since 1997, Nino Kirtadze has lived in France, where she has worked with Peter Brook, Jean-Pierre Ameris, Philippe Monnier, Claude Goretta. She collaborates on a regular basis with different national and international organisations as a consultant, lecturer, and tutor.



Aleš Suk

Aleš Suk, independent film maker, producer and film teacher. Born 1977 in Vrchlabi, Czech republic, studied FAMU (1999-2005) lives in Rijeka, Croatia, teaches at Prague Film Academy (FAMU), Department of film editing since 2004 and at Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka (New media and animation) since 2009. Founder and CEO of UKUS production-company based in Rijeka, Croatia. Founder of Refineri – platform for support, development and distribution of hybrid projects on the borders of cinematography and visual arts. He produced, shot and edited “Marija’s Own” (“Świat Marii”, 2011) – PLANETE+ DOC FF 2012 – which was screened at over 20 festivals including MOMA’s Documentary fortnight’s Gala closing night, awarded at Karlovy Vary IFF and “Winter/Miracle” (2012) a docu-fiction film coproduction co-directed by Gustavo Beck from Brazil which was awarded as the Best European documentary film at Jihlava IDFF.



Manuel Rougeron

Vice – President of Management Board and Chief Programming Officer of nc+ Platform. He’s got over 15 years of experience in the media and is one of the most experienced managers in CANAL+ Group. He has used his skills and knowledge to the advantage of the company in many countries. Manuel Rougeron started his career in 1995 in Unifrance Film International. In 1998 he became a member of the Organization Committee of the World Cup in France, and a year later he became a board member of TPS Programme. In 2003 he became president of MULTIVISION / TPSVOD. In January 2007 Manuel Rougeron started working for CANAL+ Overseas as a manager for canals and programming cooperation. In 2009 he became operating director In VSTV, which represents CANAL+ Overseas in Vietnam. In June 1, 2012 he became a managing director of CANAL+ Caledonia. Since January 2014 he is the member of nc+ Management Board.
