About the film

Three protagonists of different ages. Agnieszka – a teenager, Małgosia – a twenty-years old mother of two, Basia – an eighty year old lady. They are all connected through the place, the centre of Łódz, which doesn’t bear any resemblance to the city centres of other large cities. The place doesn’t offer them opportunities for development it just keeps them in the state of passive “non-existence”. In the centre of Łódź most people are unemployed and have not been paying rent for ages. Building

are dilapidated and have not been renovated for years. Agnieszka is living with her mother and sister who don’t work. Agnieszka quit school and was looking for a job, unsuccessfully. A few months ago Agnieszka had a car accident which made her stay at hospital and now she is unable to work. Małgosia had been living with her two daughters in shelter for homeless women. The elder daughter knows her father, whereas the younger doesn’t. Right now Małgosia is renting a flat with her present boyfriend. And they seem to be doing quite well. Basia lives with her son who falls into cycles of drinking and non-drinking. Basia looks after her neighbour’s seven-year-old son, Patryk, who spends all days with her. The portrayals of these three women constitute a full image of the quarter, which in a way exists only thanks to women. It is women who, despite obstacles and problems, push their families forward, believing in future.
