Written and directed by Luc Jacquet, based on an original idea by Francis Hallé, a pioneering botanist and ecologist specializing in primeval tropical forests, “One Upon A Forest” invites the spectator into a never-before-seen world of natural wonder. Shooting took place from June to November 2012 in Peru, Gabon and France. For the first time audiences will be able to watch a rainforest grow before their eyes. The film will draw on a vast fund of research and knowledge acquired throughout centuries: from the primeval forest first growth to the development of the unique bond between plants and animals, no less than seven centuries will unfold as we watch. The film will guide viewers on an unprecedented journey into the depths of the tropical jungle… and into the very heart of life itself. Only cinema can offer this unique voyage into a completely untamed universe, a world in perfect equilibrium, in which each living thing – from the smallest to the largest – plays an essential role. For the first time, cinema will take part in a global movement to heighten public awareness of forest conservation.
