About the film

This documentary tells the story of the most important Italian cinematic movement: neorealism. Emerging after the Second World War, this genuine cultural revolution very quickly became an inexhaustible source of inspiration for filmmakers all over the world. The account is introduced by one of the masters of this current, coherent in form but rich in different personalities: Carlo Lizzani, whose “lecture” reconstructs the birth and development of neorealism. It is accompanied by contributions from Ermanno Olmi, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Bernardo Bertolucci, Umberto Eco, Franco Interlenghi, Antonella Lualdi, Enzo Staiola, Paolo Galluzzi, Giuseppe Rotunno and Martin Scorsese.
