“Education is not a product”, “Free education”, “Money for education, not for army” – slogans that could be seen during the great students’ strike in Croatia in 2009, have appeared in recent years in many other countries. Has the change of universities into companies offering market-oriented “educational services” become a fact? Can reversing these disadvantageous trends be done only by mobilising students? Or maybe changes at all levels of educational system are needed, as well as a broad, social discussion about why we view education more as an individual investment rather than a common good?
