About the film

"Sculpture Plein Air. Swiecie 2009" is a record of sculpture work-shops organised and documented by Artur Żmijewski. He invited seven artists from all over Poland to co-operate with workers from the steel construction factory in Świecie, a small town far from artistic centres. With the infrastructure, equipment and materials provided by the patron of the event, both artists and workers co-create sculptures that enhance the public space. Their collaboration is a realisation of the utopian model forged during similar initiatives combining art and industrial technology, organised in the 1960s and 1970s by Elbląg’s Gallery EL. By reactivating that movement, Żmijewski shows the distance between different social groups and asks if they can really be brought together nowadays.
