Debate: Sustainable Cities of the Future: Plans or Dreams?

Sunday, May 13, 2012, 4 p.m., Luna Cinema, following the screening of the film

Language of the debate: Polish

After the screening UNDP, which is responsible for the UN Secretary General's Global Compact initiative in Poland, invites viewers to a debate.
According to the current prognoses, in the year 2050 75% of the Earth's population will live in cities. As urban design is becoming increasingly relevant, the film “Urbanized” documents the various strategies connected with the issue, showcasing the work of world's most famous architects.
And what is Poland's situation in this respect? The debates that will be held in five Polish cities – Warsaw, Wrocław, Lodz, Gdynia and Lublin – aim to discuss perspectives of sustainable growth on local level. Panelists will include representatives of city authorities and non-governmental organizations, experts in architecture and natural building, as well as local city inhabitants. In the course of the discussions, we will attempt to juxtapose some of the solutions presented in the film with the development perspectives for Polish cities.
The debates will be held on the eve of the UN conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20, which aims to have world leaders discuss issues connected with the direction of global growth.
