Debate: Back to the Square: What Kind of Future Awaits the Children of the “Arab Spring”?

May 12 2012,Saturday,1:30 p.m., Kinoteka, following the screening of the film “Words of Witness”

Languages of the debate: Polish and English

After the screening, Amnesty International invites viewers to a debate about the “Arab Spring”. We have all followed the events of an unprecedented year in the history of North Africa and the Middle East, when one man's dramatic plea sparked a wildfire and suddenly, the region's peoples began to demand changes, respect for their dignity and influence over their governments.
However, a year after the revolution began, it transpires that for these societies, democracy and respect for human rights are still a long way ahead. In circumstances, where the region's huge hopes and ambitions side with the tragedy that is still being perpetuated – we ponder over the post-Arab Spring future of North African and Middle East countries. Will the changes that had already taken place lead to deeper systematic transformations that will usher in democracy and human rights? Will this be a revolution of human rights?
