Competitions: Magic Hour Award


This year 15 films will compete for the Magic Hour Award and 4,000 euros in the mid-length documentaries. Jury members: Anna Wydra, Walter Stockman and Sara Garcia Villanueva. The award is funded by the Polish Film Institute.

Anna Wydra


The Academy Award nominated producer for documentary “Rabbit á la Berlin”. Awarded the Prize for the Best Producer at the Cracow Film Festival. Nominated for Polish Film Institute Award in the category Best Foreign Promotion. Producer and production manager of many awarded films – both documentaries and fiction films. Participant of many international workshops including: Discovery Campus Masterschool 2006, EKRAN Programme 2007, ExOriente 2008 and EAVE 2011. 2006-09 Head of Production and from 2010 Tutor at “Creative Producer Course” at Wajda School. Born in 1979. Studied at Warsaw School of Economics in Warsaw. She runs Otter Films - production company based in Warsaw.



Walter Stockman



Born in 1966, he studied film at the Art Academy in Breda, the Netherlands. Since 1993, he has made several documentary films, including one about funk musician Sly Stone (“Let Me Have It All”) and one about black pop stars (“Can’t u Hear me Singin”). Since 1997 he has also worked as a free lance director for Dutch TV station VPRO. His work became internationally recognized when he was awarded for Best Documentary at the Brooklyn International Film Festival in 2003 and when he won the “Gouden Kalf” Award for his documentary film ‘’ASH World Wide Suicide” (2002). His latest film, „Scena del Crimine” (2010) is about life in the city of Naples. It is a frame narrative in seven “scenes”. The film was selected for the 67th Venice IFF and awarded with the Art Competition Jury Prize at the Docu Days film festival, Ukraine.



Sara Garciá Villanueva


Graduated from the University of Valencia at the department of Audiovisual Communication, with a master’s degree in production and editing, she also has studies of English Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2005, after working in several film and art festivals, she founded Play-Doc alongside Ángel Sánchez. Play-Doc is an independent documentary film festival based in the north of Spain for which she is currently the artistic director. Also, Sara is the cofounder of the Play-Doc Workshops, which is based on supporting young talented filmmakers from Galicia and around the world.
