“Framing the Other” is a short documentary about tourism and its complex relationships with indigenous communities. It reveals the intriguing thoughts of a Mursi woman from Southern Ethiopia and that of a Dutch tourist as they prepare themselves for meeting each other. This ultimately results in an awkward encounter. Recently, the Mursi have undergone a process of touristification, mainly because of the exotic physical appearance of the women with their lip plates. While the tourists treat the Mursi people as curiosities to be photographed, the Mursi in turn deal with the influx of the 'other' in their own particular way.
