Canon Cinematography Award

For the first time PLANETE DOC Film Festival will award the Canon Cinematography Award. The winner will receive EUR 4,000 . Films will be judged by a jury consists of Marcin Koszałka, Michał Marczak, Piotr Stasik. The award is funded by the Canon Poland.

Jury

Marcin Koszałka

Cinematographer and documentary filmmaker, permanent collaborator of the American TV channel HBO. Graduate and instructor at the Katowice film school. Winner of two Golden Lion awards for cinematography at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia (The Welts, Rewers) and the Bronze Frog at Camerimage Festival (Rewers) and numerous awards for his documentary films at festivals in Leipzig, Berlin, Karlove Vary, Nyon, Cracow and Teheran. His documentaries have been screened at a number of prestigious festivals (including Amsterdam, Moscow, Rotterdam, Washington DC and Tampere). As a cinematographer he considers himself an orthodox supporter of 35 mm film.


Michał Marczak

Director. Age 28. Author of the film At the Edge of Russia awarded with last years Magic Hour award at the PLANETE DOC Film Festival, the Silver eye award at the Jihlava Film Festival and nominated for the Prix Europe. Currently working on his narrative feature film debut.

Piotr Stasik

He was supposed to follow in his parents’ footsteps and become a farmer, but mysterious forces pushed him towards filmmaking. Enthusiast and director of documentary films, graduate of Andrzej Wajda’s Film School and University of Warsaw, co-founder of The Association of the Creative Initiatives "ę". As a self-proclaimed cinematographer (winner of the Golden Frog at the 2011 Camerimage Festival), he runs the Film Kindergarten in Andrzej Wajda’s Film School. In his free time he enjoys reading and photography. He dreams of a revolution of any sort.
